Platforms + Publishers

How could publishers and platforms work together more effectively? And how might they jointly come up with innovative solutions to industry challenges? How important is it to have ownership over first party data versus generating reach or revenue through partnerships with the platforms?

Sarah Brown of Meta on the relationship between publishers and platforms

Sarah Brown, Head of News Partnerships, Northern Europe, at Meta, was part of the PPA Decodes Platforms + Publishers breakfast briefing on March 30th 2022.

Sarah has previously worked in journalism and media comms for 15 years, joining the BBC News website in 2001 before moving to Al Jazeera English in 2006, working in Qatar and Washington DC where she reported on the 2008 US presidential election.

Prior to joining Meta in 2015, she worked at CNN International in London on their pioneering iReport platform. She also spent two years in charity communications, working at Oxfam as a senior press officer and as deputy chief executive of the Women’s Resource Centre. She is based in London.

Here she tells us what is going on at Meta which publishers should be aware of, what her view is on the current relationship between platforms and publishers and what media organisations should be thinking about when it comes to working with platforms.
